Religious Education

Basic Statement for RE Office

The Religious Education Office seeks to serve this community by assisting parents in the religious formation of their children by setting before them Christian adults who, by their commitment to service in the church, will inspire and promote opportunities which will lead the young to faith in Jesus Christ, and active participation in the Catholic Church.  We also seek to motivate adults to increase and enrich their faith in God and in the Church so they may be witnesses of the Gospel through love, justice and mercy to everyone they encounter.

Mission statement:

To look upon each child as created in the image and likeness of God and as a reflection of His goodness.  Realizing that God has created all things for His glory and our benefit, the challenge of being a living witness to the Gospel should be central to the development of each student. In nurturing all age groups we will foster community, encouraging all to be good stewards of the gifts God has given them, using these gifts to proclaim, celebrate, and serve the kingdom of God.  Therefore, at St. Mary Queen of Peace, understanding Jesus and His message is essential to knowing Him, loving Him and serving Him always.

Restored Order of Sacraments

The Restored Order of Sacraments is celebrated in our parish.  This means that children who have been baptized and who regularly attend two years of religious education classes will celebrate the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the same time. Generally this celebration takes place in the Spring of the candidates second grade religious education year.

Catholic Kids Club

This ministry is an extension of religious education and designed especially for children age 4 through grade 5.  CKC meet on the second Sunday of every month (unless otherwise specified) from 3-5:00pm in the REB conference room.  The children are presented with the Gospel reading of the day and a craft pertaining to the Gospel or to the season.  Music and motion, snacks and recreation are also incorporated.  Families are encouraged to then attend the Sunday 5:30 Mass where the children will share all they have learned.  Our goal is to present the Gospel message to the children in such a way that they desire to learn more about and be drawn closer in relationship to God.

Youth Ministry

Blessed Pope John Paull II said in 1995 at the World Youth Day "What is needed today is a Church which knows how to respond to the expectations of young people." Read more...
